This watch is for sale.  If you are interested, drop me a line.

I have said that the double red Seadweller might have been the rarest watch I've ever owned.  That may not be entirely true.  I am not an expert in vintage pieces, but I would guess that this one might be even more rare.  It is a model 1530 and if you think it looks like an Oysterquartz, you are correct.  It is not an Oysterquartz, though.

In the 1970s, when the entire Swiss watch industry was working on bringing an electric watch movement to market, Rolex test marketed the case that was planned for use with their upcoming quartz offering.  There were two watches released in this case with integrated bracelet.  The 1530 was the stainless version and the 1630 was the two tone version.  For some reason, the 1630 was called a Datejust and the 1530 a Date.  The cases are the same size and they use the same movement.  Each watch came in only one variation with only one dial color (the two tone had a gold dial).

This watch houses a Rolex 1570 movement.  Very few of the 1530s were ever produced.

There are many of you who know more about this watch than I do.  Please let me know if I've got any of this wrong.
